Concept:
At the boundary between day and night,
light and shadow begin to dissolve into one another.
The very act of seeing begins to waver, like a dream.
Purple, like an elongated shadow, is both shadow and light turned inside out.
Gold is the sunset staining the water—or perhaps the hidden face of darkness.
Purple drifts, stretching outward. Gold ripples and flickers.
Twilight gaze reflects both reality and illusion, layered upon each other.


Shadows — The Light of Shadow, the Shadow of Light

The moon is both shadow and light.
A full moon, suspended in the night sky, is a round illusion—an aperture of brightness torn into the dark.
Its glow is not its own, but a reflection of the sun—an illusory light.
When this light is cast upon the surface of water, another mirror,
we witness an illusion of an illusion—
a shadow that is, paradoxically, made of light.

Not all shadows are black.
Some behave like light.
Some lights arrive in the form of shadow.
In this ambiguity lies the essence of seeing.

When viewing this work, I invite you to imagine a full moon rising above the painting.

This piece is an exploration of the fragile boundaries between reality and illusion, light and shadow, presence and absence.


昼と夜の境目、光と影が溶け合う時刻。
見るという行為そのものが夢のように揺らぐ。
長く伸びた影のような紫は、影であると同時に光が反転した姿である。
金は水面を染める夕陽、或いは闇の裏の姿。
紫はたゆたい伸びてゆく。金は波打ち、揺れる。
黄昏のまなざしは、現と幻の表裏を同時に映す。


Shadows ― 光の影、影の光

月は影であり、同時に光でもある。
夜空に浮かぶ満月は、闇に穿たれた円い虚像。
その光は本物ではなく、太陽の反射――つまり「虚の光」。
水面というもう一つの鏡にそれが映るとき、
私たちは、虚像の光がさらにもう一段階“虚像化”された姿を目にしている。

黒とは限らない影。
光のようにふるまう影。
影として差し出される光。
その曖昧さにこそ、「見ること」の本質があるのではないだろうか。

この作品を見るとき、どうか絵の上に満月が昇っていることを想像してみてほしい。

本作は、実体と虚像、光と影、存在と不在の境界を見つめる試みである。
